This series is based on the 1963 Baptist Faith and Message, with one message devoted to each of the sections of this statement of faith. The title - In Essentials Unity, Opinions Liberty, and In All Things Love - speaks to the idea that the Baptist Faith and Message is a statement of faith and not a creed. Baptists have never been a creedal people, believing that creeds can be used to enforce particular beliefs, thus violating an individual's freedom of conscience. Though one person's essential can be another person's opinion, it is necessary that we think very carefully before ever giving into the temptation to impose a required belief upon others.
